Direct Mail & Variable Data Printing in the Bay Area
USPS compliant mailing, list processing, and personalized printing, handled at our Emeryville facility.
Targeted. Efficient. Sustainable.
Bacchus Press is a union printer specializing in direct mail for labor unions, political campaigns, small/large business, governmental agencies, public and nonprofit organizations. From our Emeryville facility, we handle variable data printing, member list processing, fundraising campaigns, and targeted mailers, all under one roof.
Our in-house team produces everything from boutique, nonprofit donor cards to large-scale union member mailings and political mail drops, with USPS presort handling and full mail tracking. Bay Area organizations choose us because every step stays local: design coordination, printing, addressing, inserting, and mail drop all happen at our facility.
In-house variable data printing, mailing list processing, and USPS delivery for businesses, organizations, and nonprofits.
What We Do
Direct mail is the entire chain, not just the printing part. We run all of it in-house, which is why our turnaround beats the competition and why nothing falls through the cracks between vendors.

Variable Data Printing
Every piece gets unique content: name, address, ask amount, salutation, neighborhood reference, ballot number, member ID. We pull from your CSV or database and personalize down to the individual record. Page-per-page personalization, segmentation by zip code or demographic, and customization across multiple sub-markets in one production run.

Mailing List Processing
We run your list through CASS certification and NCOA address updates before a single piece is printed. That catches bad addresses, applies the latest USPS forwarding data, and removes duplicates. The result: less wasted postage, fewer returned mailers, cleaner reporting after the drop.

USPS Presort and Drop
Our in-house mail department handles presort to qualify your job for the lowest available postage rate. First-Class, Marketing Mail, Nonprofits, and EDDM are all options depending on your goals. We hold a USPS permit, drop directly at the Oakland processing facility, and provide tracking documentation.

Inserting and Hand-Assembly
Machine and hand inserting for standard #10 and 6×9 envelopes. Donor card paired with a personalized letter, a membership packet with three inserts, a new-member kit. We can run several thousands of letters at scale or build a few hundred boutique packages by hand.

Print-on-Demand for Testing
Test a 500-piece pilot before committing to a 50,000-piece run. We can produce small variants, track response by code, and scale up the version that wins.

Eco-Friendly Production
FSC-certified paper stocks, soy and vegetable-based inks, in-house recycling. Same shop that prints your mail is also a partner of the Bay Area Green Business and Canopy Planet program.

Why Bay Area Organizations Choose Us
We’re the printer that doesn’t subcontract out the mailing. That sounds small until your job gets handed off to three different vendors and something goes wrong.
Everything Under One Roof
Design coordination, prepress, printing, addressing, inserting, presort, and mail drop all happen at our facility. No transfer between facilities, no extra freight, no version-control mistakes between a printer and a separate mail house.
Faster Hands-Off Turnaround
A typical full-color mailer with addressing and presort moves through our shop in three to five business days. Rush windows are available when a campaign deadline calls for it.
Lower Total Cost
One vendor, one invoice, one production line. You skip the markup that mail houses charge on top of print costs, and you skip the freight between separate facilities.
Smaller Carbon Footprint
Fewer transfer trips between vendors. FSC-certified papers, soy and vegetable-based inks, in-house recycling. Bay Area Green Business certified.
Union Bug on Every Qualified Job
PPPWU Label 1557M. Recognized by Bay Area labor councils, endorsement committees, and campaign compliance staff as proof every step was performed by union labor.
50 Years in the Bay Area
Founded in 1975. Same Emeryville facility, same focus on craft, three generations of clients who keep coming back.
One production line, from start to finish.
One vendor. One invoice. Zero runaround.
Direct Mail Products & Services
Most jobs fall into a handful of formats. If yours is something different, send it over and we’ll spec it.
Self-Mailers and Tri-Folds
Folded, tabbed, and addressed without an envelope. Cost-effective for high-volume drops where the design carries the message on the outside.
#10 and 6x9 Letter Packages
Donor cards for Nonprofits with customized inserts. Add a personalized letter with up to three inserts and a new member kit that pares with your brand.
Custom Postcards
Any size from 4×6 up to jumbo. Printed with soy and vegetable inks on FSC-certified card stock, with optional gloss lamination for durability.
Member Communications
Union newsletters, contract ratification ballots, organizing campaign literature, and steward bulletins. Stored artwork and member files for recurring print programs.

Saturation mail by carrier route. Useful for local awareness, ballot measure outreach, or any campaign where you want to hit every household in a zip code without a list.
Targeted Voter Mail
Variable data printing on slate cards, candidate mailers, ballot measure literature, and GOTV postcards. We segment by precinct, party registration, and voter history when your file is structured for it.

Direct Mail FAQ
What's the minimum order for a direct mail campaign?
No hard minimum. We’ve run jobs from a few hundred handwritten donor pieces up to several hundred thousand letters in a single drop.
Do you handle the mailing list, or do I provide one?
Both work. You can send us a CSV, Excel, or database export. We’ll run it through CASS and NCOA before printing. If you don’t have a list, we can refer you to list brokers we trust for political, nonprofit, and consumer files.
What postage classes do you handle?
First-Class, USPS Marketing Mail, Nonprofit Marketing Mail, and EDDM. We hold a USPS permit and presort all qualifying jobs for the lowest available rate.
How fast can you turn a mailer around?
Three to five business days is standard from approved files to mail drop. Rush production is available during election windows and for time-sensitive nonprofit appeals.
Do you offer nonprofit postage rates?
Yes, for qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations with their own nonprofit mailing authorization, or under our authorization where appropriate.
Can you personalize each piece?
Yes. Variable data printing customizes text, graphics, ask amounts, salutations, and images per record. We can run many versions in a single production pass.
Do you ship outside the Bay Area?
We mail nationwide and provide statewide drop shipping for campaigns and unions operating outside Northern California.
